Emma Raducanu won the award for Sports Star of the Year at the Stylist’s Remarkable Women Awards 2022, which took place at The Londoner in Leicester Square.

The event honors women who thrive and inspire people in their own fields, from activists, actors to sportspersons. Raducanu, who is currently in California for the Sunshine Double, couldn’t attend the event in person and accepted her award through a video message.

Thank you to everyone at Stylist for the Remarkable Women Award, it means a lot,” she said as quoted by stylish.co.uk.

Raducanu was bestowed with the award for her brilliant debut season. The Brit teenager made her Grand Slam debut at 2021 Wimbledon last year, where she managed to reach the fourth round and became the youngest British woman to reach the round of 16 at Majors in Open Era. This was only the start for the teen sensation as she created history at the US Open when she became the first qualifier, male or female, to win a Grand Slam title. Raducanu also ended Britain’s 44-year wait for a Grand Slam winner. For her fairytale run at the Flushing Meadows, Raducanu won numerous awards, including the BBC Sports Personality of the Year,  Laureus World Sports Award for Breakthrough of the Year.

As for her on-court performance, Raducanu’s dismal start to the season continued after she crashed out of the third round of the 2022 Indian Wells. The 19-year-old couldn’t capitalize on her first set lead and ultimately lost 7-6(3)- 4-6, 5-7 to Petra Martic.

Since her impeccable run at the US Open, Raducanu has won only 4 matches as she struggled with inconsistency and injuries. She was knocked out of the 2022 Australian Open after she suffered from severe blistering in her right hand and then had to retire mid-match at the WTA Guadalajara last month, due to a leg injury. This time around Raducanu said she couldn’t play at her usual level as she had a stiff back. She will be next seen in action at the Miami Open which begins on March 21st.
