Dear friends,

It is my great pleasure and honour to inform you that our country's premier minister ARMIN LASCHET has publicly honoured me recently by handing over the Order of Merit of the state North Rhine-Westphalia which is a state of the Federal Republic of Germany. The Order of Merit of North Rhine-Westphalia (German: Verdienstorden des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen) is a civil order of merit, of the German State of North Rhine-Westphalia.

The Order of Merit of North Rhine-Westphalia was founded on 11 March 1986. It is awarded to citizens representing all segments of the population who have made extraordinary contributions to the people and state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The order is limited to 2500 living recipients.

From its founding through January 2010, a total of 1576 people have been awarded the Order of Merit of North Rhine-Westphalia so far. This category should contain all people who have received the Order of Merit of North Rhine-Westphalia which is the only general Order of Merit of the North Rhine-Westphalia.

At the award ceremony, the prime minster praised in his laudation especially the effort of Dr. von Wild regarding the continuous improvement of less traumatic microsurgical techniques in restorative neurosurgery of all kinds of brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nerve lesions as well as in neurotraumatology when practicing a close transdisciplinary cooperation . For example in a cooperative European study he implanted electrodes to allow posttraumatic paraplegic patients to stand up and walk again. And he introduced a new concept for acute posttraumatic and postoperative neurorehabilitation already in an ICU setting. Furthermore, as the prime minster mentioned, this honour is given in recognition of Prof. von Wilds contribution to social life of the religion by mentioning the charitable Dres. Klaus and Monika von Wild foundation focussed on financial support of non-essentials needy citizens cared by the local parish priest at the Epiphanias church community. Last but not least Mr. Laschet honoured Prof. von Wilds many years activities and medical- political support as board member in national and international medical societies as well as consultant and Distinguished Professor at Universities in Egypt, Japan, and Russia and initiator of academic co-operations of his home Medical Faculty at UKM in Münster with Fujita Health University in Japan and Medical Faculties at Christian Universities in Indonesia..
