Britney Spears will launch a summer arena tour over Memorial Day weekend in Las Vegas, where she filmed her HBO special last November, according to her official Web site. The jaunt is currently scheduled to hit 28 cities and extend into mid-summer, wrapping July 22 in Dallas.
The singer recently concluded a North American arena tour in December, her first in support of her chart-topping Jive release “Britney,” which has sold 3.3 million units in the U.S. since its release last November, according to SoundScan. The tour was largely sold-out, drawing just short of 400,000 people, her booking agent David Zedeck told Billboard Bulletin late last year.
“Britney,” which is currently No. 14 on The Billboard 200, has been moving back up the chart in recent weeks, perhaps due in part to increased exposure from her film debut, “Crossroads.” The film opened at No. 2 at the box office with a gross of $17 million, but dropped to No. 5 on a $7 million take in its second week.
As previously reported, Spears will be a presenter at the 44th annual Grammy Awards, televised live tonight (Feb. 27) on CBS. In the days following the Grammys, Spears will begin work on her forthcoming video “Overprotected,” according to a post on her Web site from her mother Lynn.
