After featuring in daily soaps like Jamai Raja, Meri Hanikarak Biwi and Tujhse Hai Raabta, Rajeshwari Datta made her debut in the historical genre with Vidrohi. The journey is coming to an end, as the show is wrapping up on March 5. The unit shot the last episode on February 22 and was understandably emotional about the show winding up. Rajeshwari shares, “All good things have to end and the same is the case with Vidrohi. However, the feeling is yet to sink in. I am obviously very emotional, as this show is very close to my heart. The last day of the shoot was a memorable one and everyone was left teary-eyed. A lunch was organised by the producers for the unit and it was nice to eat together as we recalled some beautiful memories created during the course of the show.”

The actress admits that a period drama is always more challenging than other genres. She says, “Besides the costumes, it’s the language that poses the biggest challenge for any artiste. In a day and age, where we speak in Hinglish, I had to mouth dialogues in chaste Hindi. This is definitely the most difficult character in my acting career so far.”

Rajeshwari reveals that she took up the show after her fiancé, Rohit Mehta, encouraged her. She says, “I had declined so many offers from the historical and mythological genres because I wasn’t too sure if I would be able to pull it off. However, it was at Rohit’s insistence that I decided to foray into the historical genre. He told me that I should accept such roles, too, to showcase my versatility. When you take up challenges in life, whether it is on the professional or personal front, you grow as an artiste and human.”

What also piqued her interest was the fact that her character, Panthara Devi, was neither black nor white. She says, “There is no definite shade that can be associated with my character of Panthara Devi. It oscillated between positive and negative. I had a great time portraying the part.”
