The Storehouse of Hope provides emergency food, personal care services, referrals, needed resources and specific education and development activities designed to enhance human dignity and sustain families and individuals living in the North End of the city of Detroit, specifically, zip codes 48202 and 48211. The work of the Storehouse of Hope is conducted through community outreach, advocacy and collaboration.

Recently, the scope of our work broadened to include the creation of the FIRST Community Land Trust (CLT) to be established in the city of Detroit. We aim to protect families in these critical and uncertain times. We cannot achieve our goals alone. Find out how you can help.

Hope Builders Meetings

RECLAIM. REMAIN. REBUILD OUR CITIES

The Storehouse of Hope Community Land Trust host "get-togethers" inviting community member both to learn more about what we do and to share your feedback about our work, as well as ideas for the future.  Each event lasts just an hour including:

• Networking with other community members, CLT Staff, and Board members

• Presentation on CLT history, big picture mission, and current programs and availability

• A resident's personal story about how their life changed with the CLT's support

• Time for guest feedback and questions.

About

The roots of  the Storehouse of Hope go back to early 2008 when members of Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan joined the North End Collaborative (convened by City Connect) to address a plethora of challenges, including hunger and food insecurity, facing disadvantaged residents living in the North End of Detroit. Gleaners had already identified the area as being under served, using census data, poverty statistics and GIS mapping. Gleaners’ 15 partner agencies located in the 1.2-square mile community were distributing the equivalent of 130,394 meals during a six month period, but data suggested that over this same time period the community experienced a gap of 500,000 meals. The need to channel more emergency food to this area was identified as critical.

During these early collaborative meetings, which involved community development corporations (CDC's), human service agencies and churches, a framework began taking shape to better address the basic needs of the people living in the North End. With direct input from residents and knowledge and participation from current service providers, the Storehouse of Hope was born.

Community Land Trust(CLT)

In October of 2015, the Storehouse of Hope, in an effort to save families who were facing foreclosure, in the largest foreclosure crisis in the history of our country, launched a Go Fund Me campaign which exceeded expectations and successfully raised over $108,000.  This remarkable campaign led to the purchase of fifteen homes in the Detroit area.  These homes have been placed into a Community Land Trust.  

The  fifteen (15) families, many were senior citizens and single parent households, were not forced out of their homes, but given an opportunity to create history and become members and participants in the Storehouse of Hope Community Land Trust (SOHCLT).
