Images of Avanti West Coast’s new train have been shared as it makes its first “public” appearance.

Of course it is only for refuelling as it undergoes static type tests at the Newton Aycliffe factory in the North East of England.

The 805 is a new bi-mode train for the operator. The static tests mean all the basic functionalities of this train, from brakes to engines, doors to toilets, will be put through their paces prior to the start of dynamic testing later in the year, when the trains will move under its own power for the first time.

As reported, the new fleet will be a mix of ten seven-carriage electric trains (the 807 model) and the pictured 13 five-carriage bi-mode trains, which have the ability to switch seamlessly between electric and diesel power. The trains will operate from 2023.
