Tom Ford proved he was a born filmmaker with his stunning 2009 debut “A Single Man,” and now he returns this year to prove he’s here to stay with “Nocturnal Animals.” The meta-narrative thriller premiered to rapturous acclaim at the Venice Film Festival last week, and in advance of the movie’s next stop at TIFF and its November release, Focus Features has released four new character posters for the roles played by Jake Gyllenhaal, Amy Adams, Michael Shannon and Aaron Taylor-Johnson.

Based on the 1993 Austin Wright novel “Tony and Susan,” Ford’s latest starts Adams has a Los Angeles artist who receives a manuscript from her ex-husband (Gyllenhaal), who she hasn’t seen in nearly 19 years. The script details a shocking crime that happened to a family of three after they encountered a group of criminals while driving through the desert. Adams’ character takes the story as her husband exacting revenge, but Ford has something much more dangerous up his sleeve as he weaves these two tales together.

In his A- review out of Venice, IndieWire’s Ben Croll raved,  “‘Nocturnal Animals’ is an impressively ambitious effort, one part mean Texas thriller, one part middle-age melodrama, and makes for a meta-textual riddle that is almost as pleasurable to reflect on as it to actually watch.”

The new character posters introduce the four main players in this twisted tale: Adam’s artist, Gyllenhaal’s father, Shannon’s police detective and Taylor-Johnson’s criminal. Focus Features opens “Nocturnal Animals” in select theaters on November 18. Check out the four new character posters below.
