Gomez will take over from Cyrus in Adam Sandler film Hotel Transylvania.

Miley Cyrus has dropped out of animated vampire film Hotel Transylvania, with Selena Gomez taking her place.

The former Hannah Montana actress was due to voice Mavis, the teenage daughter of Count Dracula, in the animated 3D comedy.

However, Cyrus is no longer attached to the film, and according to E!, Gomez will now play the character.

Hotel Transylvania tells the story of a hotel that monsters and their families can enjoy together without having to worry about humans, but it is jeopardized when a normal person accidentally wanders in.

Monte Carlo actress Gomez will star alongside actors including Adam Sandler, David Spade and Kevin James.

The reason for Cyrus's departure has not yet been confirmed.
