» Alongside Stéphane Peterhansel, Jean-Paul has won the Dakar 7 times (in 2004, 2005, 2007, 2012, 2013, 2016 and 2017), which means that he is the co-driver with the record for the most victories on the event.


» Jean-Paul is also one of the most disciplined co-drivers out there, whose talents extend to mechanics as well as navigation.

It’s not too hard to work out exactly why Stéphane is known as « Mr Dakar ». He’s the all-time record-holder for wins on the event, with 13 first places to his name: six on bikes and seven in cars. Driving the PEUGEOT 2008DKR in 2016 and then the PEUGEOT 3008DKR in 2017, together with his loyal codriver Jean-Paul Cottret, Stéphane gave PEUGEOT the taste of victory again on the Dakar after the French marque returned to the event.

 

 

Last year they fought an epic duel against their team mates, the famous Sébastien Loeb/ Daniel Elena line-up, and this year they are back to defend their victory once more.





CARLOS SAINZ « EL MATADOR »

For a long time, Carlos held the record for the highest number of victories in the World Rally Championship, making him a living legend of the sport, with two world titles to his name. He then switched to rally raids and added the Dakar trophy to his cabinet in 2010.



Inspired by the challenge that Team PEUGEOT Total was taking on, Carlos brought his set-up skills and impressive speed to PEUGEOT’s ‘dream team’ from the start of the campaign. The Spaniard will be aiming firmly for victory this time, after an unlucky retirement in 2017.

In brief


With 78 wins and nine World Rally Championship titles under his belt, Sébastien Loeb – together with co-driver Daniel Elena – is the most successful driver in the history of the WRC. After joining Team PEUGEOT Total in 2015, the duo impressed on their first Dakar in 2016: quick out of the box, they led throughout the first week before ending up ninth overall. In 2017, Sébastien and Daniel won five stages to underline their progress once more. In the end they finished second, just five minutes off the top step of the podium.

In brief


A five-time Dakar winner on motorbikes, Cyril is now one of the top contenders on four wheels. The partnership he formed with David Castera (an ex-motorbike competitor himself) has so far won the last two editions of the Silk Way Rally and now they hope to add the Dakar to their tally. The 2018 Dakar will mark Cyril’s fourth participation on the event in a car. Last year, he claimed a stage win and finished third overall, allowing Team PEUGEOT Total to record a historic one-two-three.
