Right now, two experts are sat in a room for ten hours watching a film of paint drying. But why?

Even the filmmaker hasn't seen it all.

And you thought your Monday was bad.

Two BBFC (British Board of Film Classification) examiners are watching a ten-hour film of paint drying, all thanks to filmmaker Charlie Lyne. In November, he launched a Kickstarter campaign as part of a stance against the BBFC's "stranglehold" on British film.

Lyne ended up crowd-funding £5,963, allowing him to submit a 607-minute film to the BBFC. And today on a Reddit AMA, he announced that they are watching it today and tomorrow, due to the fact that the examiners are only allowed to watch a maximum of nine hours of material per day.

After that, the examiners will write up their notes and issue a certificate on Lyne's masterpiece within the next few weeks. However, shockingly, he's revealed that even he hasn't watched it in full: "To my great shame, I have not watched the film in its entirety."

If it sounds like your kind of film, Lyne's also not ruling out the possibility of a screening once it's been classified: "No plans as of yet, but I'm talking to a cinema here in London about showing it. It was a real headache making a 10-hour DCP, so it'd be nice to get more than one use out of it."

And the BBFC examiners had better keep their eyes peeled. The filmmaker didn't rule out the possibility that he's spliced some naughty things into it.

"Anyone who's seen Fight Club knows the appeal of the subliminal flash frame. BBFC examiners have definitely seen Fight Club (they censored it in 1999) so hopefully they're… watching closely to make sure they catch anything untoward," he teased.

"The BBFC has reserved 607 minutes in its screening schedule to show the entire film, so I trust that they're not going to defraud me and go to the pub instead."

Oh, and the type of paint? Brilliant White because of its "certain Tom Sawyer charm".
