Half of them aren't going to turn to dust, are they?

Fast X will end with a cliffhanger, it has been confirmed.

The 10th film in the action franchise (not including the Hobbs & Shaw spin-off) is the first half of a two-parter with the 11th movie, the main series' final instalment. A cliffhanger isn't necessarily a surprise, but it's good to know it's definitely happening.

The story format was confirmed in a feature in the latest issue of Empire magazine, in which director Louis Leterrier was interviewed.

Leterrier also said of the movie: "This one is big. You know, I don't want to oversell it, but what we're planning on the next one is just gigantic, in terms of action, scope and emotion. You will feel all the feels. Tears will roll."

While Fast X acts at the first of a duology within the series, it's also a follow-up to Fast Five, with Jason Momoa's villain character Dante revealed as Hernan Reyes' son.

Speaking recently about why he wanted to return to that movie, Leterrier said that he wanted to "thematically explore the price of justice" by introducing a deceased character's son. Plus, he really likes Fast Five.

"[Fast Five] is easily the best movie of the franchise. It's the greatest," the director said.

"That chase with the safe, it's the greatest moment in cinema history, so we were like, 'Let's Rashomon this scene. What if we experience this scene through the eyes of Reyes, the guys who the safe belongs to, and Dom and Brian are the thieves that kill them?'"

Fast X releases in cinemas on May 19, 2023.
