Times Square: *picture of an Octopus woman*

Every Spider-Man in the area: *visible confusion*

[–]Saarabaz 3764 points3765 points 2 (22 children)

Doctor Octopus was one of the founding members of the Sinister Six.

And now New York shall have Ina, one of the founding members of the Comfy Five!

[–]ASK_ABOUT__VOIDSPACE 1084 points1085 points  (19 children)

looks up the cost of a billboard

$230 per HOUR, that's over 5k per day MINIMUM

.

Edit: I just rolled a 6 sided dice and got a 6, you win gold! Congrats!

[–]ITriedLightningTendr 274 points275 points  (2 children)

to be used 7 minutes every hour all day

is 2.8 hours per day

https://www.reddit.com/r/Hololive/comments/n2nmjz/see_inas_birthday_in_times_square/gwku72l/

[–]Mr_Block_Head 16 points17 points  (1 child)

Not too bad, that’s around 6-7 red super chats. Surprised that the billboards are not that expensive.

[–]AmberBroccoli 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would have imagined then to be x10 that price

[–]kindofharmless 369 points370 points  (1 child)

Absolute madlad.

[–]Jam-Boi-yt 189 points190 points  (0 children)

The man didn't want to send 50 red superchats, what's the problem with that.

[–]-The_Crusade_of_1096 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Where is the space and why did you void it

[–]sincereenfuego 234 points235 points  (5 children)

Post: about a fan of an anime girl buying billboard time in Times Square for her birthday

People coming from r/all: *visible confusion*

    To those coming from r/all:

Hello! This is the subreddit for hololive production (wikipedia), a talent agency based out of Tokyo, Japan that manages Virtual YouTubers - content creators who stream using digital avatars. Most of the talents are Japanese, but there is also an Indonesian and English branch too! The talents provide all sorts of entertainment, including but not limited to: gaming streams, karaoke streams, drawing streams and talking streams. Some of the content is family friendly, others a bit more risque. The sidebar has links to each talent's Youtube and Twitter accounts.

The Takodachis (fan name) are preparing this birthday gift for Ninomae Ina'nis from HololiveEN Gen 1! She was a normal girl, until one day she found a book that gave her strange and wonderful new powers. She is also an amazing artist. Here are some clips featuring Ina, and you can find more by searching her name or Hololive on YouTube!

    [–]ariolander 89 points90 points  (0 children)

    Good bot

    [–]jcwashere 86 points87 points  (2 children)

Phoenix you might need to pay for a billboard to have this description play right after Ina's billboard lol

    [–]UnstoppablePhoenix 77 points78 points  (1 child)

I don't think I have a spare $5k for that lol, but a good idea if I did

    [–]blending-tea 92 points93 points  (0 children)

    To those coming from NYC...

    [–]Ninjastahr[S] 70 points71 points  (0 children)

    Good bot

    Good bot

    [–]marpoksma 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This one’s a bit hard to find, since there are just so many other replies on top of yours, and people just minimize the whole first comment before seeing yours... maybe post it ina separate comment as well for maximum visibility?

    [–][deleted] 92 points93 points  (6 children)

This would be a good joke if a female doctor octopus from 2099 didn't exist already. lol

    [–]Hp22h 60 points61 points  (3 children)

Into the Spiderverse had one too.

    [–][deleted] 24 points25 points  (1 child)

I think it was that one who was adapted in fact lol

    [–]miner1512 7 points8 points  (0 children)

    So there’s two,actually

    [–]brickwallrunner 10 points11 points  (0 children)

...You're saying that classic Doc Ock showing up on a Times Square screen wouldn't result in visible confusion from Spider-Man?

    [–][deleted] 2596 points2597 points  (45 children)

r/Hololive in 2021 : "WOAH! They rented a billboard for her!"

r/Hololive in 2028 : "Alright boys there's an uncolonized sector of stars 4 parsecs from the Tannhäuser gate, Chegi authorized use of his mining fleet to carve Anya's face into the largest planet we can find there for her birthday."

    [–]avelineaurora 1004 points1005 points  (15 children)

You've got big dreams for 7 years of progress lol

    [–][deleted] 518 points519 points  (12 children)

If we can go from an average of under 300k subs across all talents to renting out parts of Time Square for their birthdays in under a year nothing is outside our grasp.

    [–]Fifteen_inches 320 points321 points  (8 children)

Boing Boings are outside our grasps

    [–]F28500_sedge 157 points158 points  (0 children)

Is...is that why we're doing this for Ina instead of Calli, Kiara or any of the other OP girls?

    [–]AustSakuraKyzor 80 points81 points  (2 children)

Nah, by that point Boing Boing transfers will be possible - IIRC Noel has said before she'd be a bit happier with a smaller chest, so she'd be okay transferring some to Ina, Gura, or Rushia.

    Probably Gura, though.

    [–]Imzzu 57 points58 points  (0 children)

And she would still have leftover to feed the hungry.

    [–][deleted] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Brave words for someone with Gura as their flair.

    [–]ersteiner 86 points87 points  (10 children)

    Watch out for c-beams.

    [–]Heidric 58 points59 points  (9 children)

They glitter in the dark so beautifully

    [–][deleted] 43 points44 points  (8 children)

All those moments will be lost in time

    [–]xERR404x 67 points68 points  (0 children)

Just wait until someone uses all of the derelict attack ships near the Shoulder of Orion to spell out “watch Ina” in light-year tall letters.

    [–]cafuneandchill 40 points41 points  (6 children)

That reminds me -- I've never ever seen or heard of any Hololive-related projects like that in EVE Online

    [–]Elipses_ 26 points27 points  (4 children)

If someone made a Corp/Alliance for Hololive, i.might just have to return to the game to join lol.

    [–]ThisIsTheSenate 6 points7 points  (1 child)

I would actually reinstall EVE if that happens (should we start one?)

    [–]META_mahn 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Would love to see some New Yorkers reaction to seeing a random anime woman they don't know in times square

    [–]Scholesie09 794 points795 points  (26 children)

I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess New Yorkers:

    a. Wouldn't blink and

    b. Don't go to times Square.

    [–]Snivey_ 198 points199 points  (4 children)

    It’s usually number 2

Source: I used to live in Brooklyn

    [–][deleted] 53 points54 points  (1 child)

    There's no number 2, it's a or b /s

    [–]Snivey_ 24 points25 points  (0 children)

    Apologies for my mistake

    [–]Awoooohooooo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I live in Brooklyn and yeah don’t go to Times Square absolute hell

    [–]Fifteen_inches 291 points292 points  (9 children)

Random anime women wouldn’t even be the most shocking thing they’ve seen that day.

    [–]Faustias 42 points43 points  (6 children)

were there terrible ads or simply NY being NY?

    [–]UTKujo 73 points74 points  (1 child)

    Yes.

    [–]Aulanticus 18 points19 points  (0 children)

    From NY. Can confirm.

    [–]VritraReiRei 9 points10 points  (2 children)

So if you saw a man, dressed as a rat, carrying around a giant pizza in its mouth to imitate the "pizza rats" of New York City, what would be your first reaction?

    Would it be this?

    [–]Ryugo 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The rat gangs fighting for pizza crumbs must be boring by this time.

    [–]SpecterVonBaren 177 points178 points  (2 children)

    c. Say something like, "F*#king weebs" and start complaining online.

    [–]OrigenInori 97 points98 points  (0 children)

That's basically Twitter every time they find something they don't like and act as if its doomsday

    [–]PierceAboveWade 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Well I'm fucking ecstatic my city's gonna at least give Holo its due in some aspect.

    [–]lastamaranth 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Former New York resident here, can confirm. We avoid TS like the plague unless we work there.

    [–]3mbs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

    Nailed it.

    [–]Exceptionallyuseless 87 points88 points  (0 children)

We've had Final Fantasy XIV billboards with a dancer Viera. No one cares really.

    [–]I_am_BEOWULF 173 points174 points  (2 children)

Native New Yorkers try to avoid Times Square like the plague if they can help it, unless you work in or your work takes you in the area. It's a total tourist trap with a fuck-ton of traffic. And they see so much shit ads posted on billboards over there that just one more ad about a random "cartoon girl" they don't know about would hardly raise any eyebrows. There's so much visual stimuli in Times Square that if you live or go through there long enough, you're pretty much desensitized real quick.

    [–]EmuSupreme 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Shit even as a tourist, Times Square is information overload to the extreme. The crowds, the sounds, the lights, my brain couldn't process half the shit there on the three separate times I've been there. Though with the pandemic, I don't know how it is right now, but far, far less people are actually going to see this billboard than what others are actually fearing.

    [–]RealKamerstyp 48 points49 points  (0 children)

    Fock she dooin ova deaa?!?

    Whadda coote Actapuss!

    [–]shittastes 91 points92 points  (10 children)

Judging by the people that come here from r/all sometimes, they might say it's some pedo thing and report it to have it removed. I'll try to keep being optimistic tho, surely those kinds of people just exist only on reddit, right... right? please

    [–]I_am_BEOWULF 93 points94 points  (0 children)

They've seen far more risque ads posted on billboards over there about adult stuff in the past. One quick ad about a "cartoon girl" they don't know about won't even raise eyebrows over there.

    [–]PumpJack_McGee 30 points31 points  (1 child)

It's New York. I wouldn't worry about it.

    When everything's weird, nothing is.

    [–]SaiyanKirby 700 points701 points  (67 children)

HOW MUCH MONEY DID THIS COST

    [–]plsdontattackmeok 756 points757 points  (52 children)

Copy paste from my comment here again:-

According to Google, Thomson Reuters billboard is 230$ per hour.

    Here I calculate it:-

    7 minutes x 24 times per hour: 168 minutes or 2.8 hours

230$ x 2.8 hours: 644$ for Ina birthday in Times Square for one day

Not bad actually. I'm looking forward Ina birthday in Time Square!

    [–]dDpNh 448 points449 points  (5 children)

I don’t know why but my brain decided it was somewhere around 10 to 100 times this amount before coming into this thread.

    [–]Stigge 198 points199 points  (4 children)

On a holiday/event/big publicity day it probably would be.

    [–]SpecterVonBaren 182 points183 points  (2 children)

So why isn't it when it's Ina's birthday?

    [–]Stigge 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Because then we wouldn't even be able to afford 7mins/hour.

    [–]DarKav1411 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Ina’s birthday will be the international holiday after world domINAtion.

    [–]wickermanmorn 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Also there's a lot less large crowds than usual on account of COVID, so probably lower cost than usual for this time of year too.

    [–]GrimmSheeper 142 points143 points  (38 children)

The big thing to consider is whether or not the 7 minute slot each hour is billed for just 7 minutes or if it bills the full $230. It’s very possible that the rate is $230 for a time slot during the hour.

    That would make it $230 x 24 hours = $5,520.

And considering how much some people are able to superchat, it wouldn’t surprise me at all if some mad lad tako spent that much.

    [–]Eduardete77 22 points23 points  (1 child)

But they are using 4 screens, so it's

    4 x 644 = 2576$

    [–]pyrus425 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That’s still surprisingly cheap for my preconceived notions of what a Times Square billboard costs

    [–]Niemandweiter 267 points268 points  (11 children)

between 5k and 50k for a day, according to google.

    [–]Rushias_Wife 162 points163 points  (0 children)

We truly are shrimps for the girls

    [–]Rappy33 133 points134 points  (4 children)

Some of the billboards apparently cost a lot less. The Thomson Reuters billboard can be as cheap as $240/hr according to this and this article

    [–]Tionius 161 points162 points  (2 children)

$240 per hour is still $5760 per day.

    [–]Rappy33 61 points62 points  (0 children)

    ...u right... my bad lol

Another guy seems to have pinned down the cost though and it seems pretty manageable considering the amount of superchats some people can give out

    [–]zsvx 15 points16 points  (0 children)

only doing it for 7 minutes every hour so it shouldn’t be nearly as bad

    [–]WhoryGilmore 76 points77 points  (0 children)

*me who's never spent a cent on hololive: We did it tentacultists!

    [–]greyhat111b 35 points36 points  (0 children)

There are probably well-to-do or prolific artists involved.

    [–]VritraReiRei 27 points28 points  (1 child)

What!? You would think ad space in NYC would be in the millions considering it's well... New York.

Now I want to know how the heck Tommy Wiseau spent 2 million on a billboard.

Hmmm... I'm off that day. Do I go to NYC just to take a video of the billboard that day 🤔

    [–]hellyeboi6 36 points37 points  (0 children)

It's probably because billboards vary a lot in size/location and the main ones are being constantly booked in advance by massive corporations which fight to death over them, so the queue is most likely extremely long, unless you have a couple of spare millions to speed up the process.

    [–]Ninjastahr[S] 1747 points1748 points  (30 children)

ANY FURTHER UPDATES WILL BE ON THIS COMMENT I'M SO EXCITED

IMPORTANT: WE DO HAVE A WEBSITE THAT WILL ARCHIVE ALL THE ART AND MESSAGES

It's not like we're just doing the billboard thing, the billboard will link to the project page on the website, so Ina can look at all of it later if she wants! Also, that's where the text posts will be.

My personal thoughts on the project - I think this is a great way to get some great artists' work shown, and also to appreciate our favorite artist tako. It is big, it's flashy, but at the core the purpose is to get more people to check out Ina's chill streams and join us in having our days made better by Ina. This isn't speaking for anyone else, but this is my own opinion on the project, and I hope Ina understands just how much she has helped people simply by being herself!

Further explanation for the billboard - We have it all day on the 20th, 7 minutes every hour, for max 60 seconds consecutive (so, if we have a 60 second .mov, it will play 7 times an hour all day) - AND NO I DON'T KNOW HOW MUCH IT COST THE MADLAD NEVER TOLD ME

PS: I REGRET KEEPING POST NOTIFICATIONS ON

ALSO A NOTE: WE ARE NOT OFFICAL IN ANY WAY, SHAPE, OR FORM - we're just crazy fans - we DID however do this through the proper channels. This isn't a surprise for Cover, but this is a fan project and not affiliated with cover-corp

MAYBE FINAL EDIT: We just received the green light to continue our project by Ina herself on stream! She said she's looking forward to it!

    [–]hedgehog_dragon 399 points400 points  (1 child)

Holy shit man. Big ups to y'all for organizing this, that's crazy.

    [–]Raydhen 32 points33 points  (0 children)

They're right that having contact with a priest/ess of Elder God can turn one mad.

    Tentacult are bunch of madlads!

    [–]Hayura-------- 357 points358 points  (12 children)

    Copy paste from u/plsdontattackmeok here:

According to Google, Thomson Reuters billboard is 230$ per hour.

    7 minutes x 24 times per hour: 168 minutes or 2.8 hours

230$ x 2.8 hours: 644$ for Ina birthday in Times Square for one day

    [–]Colopty 260 points261 points  (4 children)

That's a huge simp donation but surprisingly doable for a non-corporate entity.

    [–]boran_blok 95 points96 points  (0 children)

Ive seen superchat donations higher than that (spread out over multiple due to the 500 limit)

It is surprisingly affordable to be honest.

    [–]bandwatch 27 points28 points  (2 children)

    Is honestly surprisingly cheap

    [–]bobly81 253 points254 points  (3 children)

Honestly that doesn't seem too bad a price to display your cult leader in such a populated area.

    [–]imaforgetthis 88 points89 points  (1 child)

I'm not familiar with any type of advertising costs whatsoever, but that seems a lot cheaper than I would have thought. Granted, this is kind of the opposite end of Times Square that most people think of, it's still crazy to be in such a busy area. That's some dedication.

    [–]Zeph-Shoir 21 points22 points  (0 children)

So we need to do this more often, gotcha!

    [–]Kachopper9 14 points15 points  (0 children)

    Huh...

    Not that bad.

    [–]imaloserhelp 8 points9 points  (1 child)

is that for multiple screens tho?

    [–]TraderJoJos 180 points181 points  (0 children)

    Dang, this is inasane!

    [–]Vinon 30 points31 points  (0 children)

we're just crazy fans - we DID however do this through the proper channels. This isn't a surprise for Cover.

Very glad. No surprise the Takodachis pulled together their combined brain cell for that move :¶

Very cool. Already submitted my message.

    [–]Graestra 10 points11 points  (3 children)

Just make sure you properly curate what’s being shown so that nothing reflects negatively on Ina. Don’t want any controversies over something out of context or to affect her reputation by showcasing weird stuff

    [–]Ninjastahr[S] 18 points19 points  (2 children)

Don't worry, we're getting the OK from the people up top before it's put up.

    [–]Vicidomini 12 points13 points  (1 child)

Maybe it would be useful to post a screenshot of the communication with Cover somewhere in the project website so that you won't have to reply to everyone asking about permissions.

    [–]AngryKV2 299 points300 points  (7 children)

I was expecting something cool from the tentacult discord so I kept this as surprise for myself but what the fuck this is amazing.

    [–]Fitzlibutz 45 points46 points  (5 children)

    Wait there is a discord?!

    [–]pan0ply 21 points22 points  (1 child)

    https://hololive.wiki/wiki/Fan_Discords

There's a server for everyone. And these are only the larger ones. There are probably a lot of smaller ones out there.

    [–]Nachtflut 60 points61 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of fan discords for the different members as far as I know

    [–]alcard987 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I mean, there is a link in the post.

    [–]Hp22h 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm sure the turnpike removed a few years from my life, stress alone lol.

Took a bit to think you meant the turnpike rather than the train - I work from home for now, but if I had another job, I'd rather take NJ Transit than drive.

A whole lot of people saw the images on the big screens at Times Square New York.

Afterwards there were reports of people acting strangely all over town... and soon the country.

By the time governments world wide realised what had happened it was almost too late to stop it.... perhaps... it was."

    Tentacles stronk together.

    [–]Viniuau 97 points98 points  (3 children)

Man, I hope someone will be able to livestream it or at least get a recording of it. The whole world and Ina herself needs to see this!

    [–]Hornet65 52 points53 points  (11 children)

Hopefully I don't see "What is this mysterious Tentacult" on the news that evening.

    [–]Fifteen_inches 39 points40 points  (5 children)

Kiara: “we are not a cult! We are not a cult!”

Ina: “hello, welcome to my cult, huma huma”

    [–]Vinon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

    Oh My God

I completely forgot about PlatinumKnights Tyrone series until this very second.

Are we sure hes not the one behind this :p

    [–]Calico_fox 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That's all we need is another ATHF Boston Bomb Scare.

    [–]Graysteve 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Holy shit, HoloLive fans are fucking nuts. I mean, I'm one of them, but holy shit lmao

    [–]Panzerscher 106 points107 points  (1 child)

    YO THIS IS BIG

    [–]Cerby3BR 82 points83 points  (21 children)

Are we sure this is something Ina would actually like? Not too sure she'd want that amount of mainstream attention.

    [–]Niemandweiter 82 points83 points  (16 children)

Wait, so fanart and fan messages will be displayed for 7 minutes each hour for the whole day...?

I mean , this is amazing, but isn't it... too big?

Isn't this on the leven that needs to be preapproved by cover themselves?

    [–]brickwallrunner 68 points69 points  (0 children)

only if it's being done for profit, which this isn't, so it's within the rules (e.g. Smol Ame)

    [–]Fiftycentis 49 points50 points  (10 children)

The organizers got approved by Cover to do this

    [–]Valashv2 79 points80 points  (16 children)

ok, lemme just say it right from the beginning. This is pretty cool and an amazing gesture to Ina!

I gotta voice out some concerns though. This is definitely one way to introduce Hololive. Both positive attention and negative attention. We have to all admit, some people are just assholes who wants to shit on anything other people like. I hope that we as fans are prepared for any backlash we may possibly receive from this.

I know that sometimes it fits. Like if there’s an anime convention going on, you’ll see FGO advertisement on busses in LA and stuff like that. It attracted a lot of attention definitely but there’s an end goal to it: the anime convention. It fits the theme and it doesn’t look out of place.

What kind of attention will this bring? How will Ina react to it? Again, this is an amazing gesture and hot damn it’s exciting but what’s gonna be the effect of it? I really do hope it doesn’t become some kind of competition where us fans ends up trying one upping each other. And I haven’t even started with how Ina feels about this. Think of it this way, If you’re dating someone, what kind of gift would they like? Man I know my girlfriend would probably not like something like this.

Or maybe im just rambling and being overly safe about all of this. I don’t really know myself.

    [–]huynhvonhatan 32 points33 points  (4 children)

My first thought was, this is very cool, the fans love the girl enough to pull this kind of stunt off.

Then once I put some thoughts into this, I really couldn’t see anything else other than bad complications that’d come out of this pr project.

But then again, the mods should have seen this post by now and if they want to, Covers would send them a letter to stop already, or soon.

    Let’s hope nothing bad happens.

    [–]bobman4563 10 points11 points  (2 children)

I might be misremembering, but I think either someone on the tentacult server or some post on here mentioned that Cover was aware of this before the announcement and that this is more or less just advertisement for them. They could’ve stopped this awhile back if they didn’t like the idea.

That being said, I hope that cover at least contacted Ina to see if she’d be fine over something like this, especially if cover gave the us the green light to do this.

    [–]dcresistance 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I don't think anything bad will happen, but it's really more of would Ina be comfortable with it

    [–]Hornet65 49 points50 points  (3 children)

My biggest worry is that all of the backlash this will bring (and it'll bring quite a bit) will be directed toward Ina herself even though she has nothing to do with it.

    [–]BeautifulWindow 49 points50 points  (0 children)

OH MY GOD YOU GUYS ARE CRAZY BUT LIKE GOOD CRAZY

HUMONGOUS KUDOS TO WHOEVER PULLED THIS OFF WHAT A MADLAD

    [–]plsdontattackmeok 58 points59 points  (0 children)

According to Google, Thomson Reuters billboard is 230$ per hour.

    Here I calculate it:-

    7 minutes x 24 times per hour: 168 minutes or 2.8 hours

230$ x 2.8 hours: 644$ for Ina birthday in Times Square for one day

Not bad actually. I'm looking forward Ina birthday in Time Square!

    [deleted]

      [–]flexpost 70 points71 points  (4 children)

according to the discord mods they did ask Cover

      [–]EvidenceBasedSwamp 69 points70 points  (3 children)

Yagoo: wait, the fans want to pay thousands of dollars to advertise my company? Yes please

      [–]flexpost 8 points9 points  (2 children)

not that it matters too much, but at least according to some comments here it's not exactly thousands

      [–]Counter_Crux 33 points34 points  (3 children)

Ya Ina recently said that she’s uncomfortable with even having her as a ringtone in public so this is a lot BUT..it’s a birthday once in a year gift so I get it. We definitely need to ask her on Twitter and in her next stream.

      [–][deleted]  (1 child)

Agree, this feels like way too much and very much not in the spirit of something Ina would appreciate. I get that fans are passionate, and I love Ina's streams, too, but... I don't know, this feels like a weird sort of flexing that's just wildly uncomfortable and bound to make people upset with Ina through no fault of her own. I get wanting to surprise someone but I feel like they really should've reached out to Ina or at least gotten confirmation from her manager that this would be welcome, not just legal permission from Cover, which... again, I understand that some discord mods say they got permission but... X to doubt.

        [–]alcard987 9 points10 points  (3 children)

which... again, I understand that some discord mods say they got permission but... X to doubt.

Well, from reading the Discord, Cover's stance seems to be "I would prefer to see the arts before hand but otherwise do what you must and keep me in the loop"

Tho, they seem to be still discussing what type of fan art is permitted.

        [–]strikeraiser 95 points96 points  (6 children)

she seems like a person who wouldn't enjoy this kind of attention.

I think so as well. Didn't Ina once mention that she sometimes gets anxious on how much could be spent for her? This kinda sounds like one of those things she's not comfortable with.

This stunt just seems like it'll bring unwanted attention. Like Jesus Christ this is practically just a flex/grandstanding. Just send a superchat or something.

EDIT: Downvoted just because I'm not comfortable with the idea. Keep being a hugbox, r/hololive.

        [–]Rappy33 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I can't help but feel the same way tbh. I'd love to be proven wrong but this whole stunt feels like the opposite of what Ina wants. Especially with how she told us not to put her on such a high regard and/or on a pedestal on her most recent Q&A.

edit: looks like I have been proven wrong

        [–]Flex_Dynasty 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Yea it seems like the exact opposite of something Ina would be into.

        [–]ohlolok 34 points35 points  (1 child)

Not sure why you're being downvoted, this kinda rubbed me off the wrong way when considering in mind how Ina might not be comfortable with it. There's been issues when some posts from here show up on r/all, but Times Square.. I think bringing unwanted attention might not be the best action. Well, who knows though how this'll turn out.

        [–][deleted] 60 points61 points  (7 children)

        This seems... Risky

Not sure she'd appreciate this but ok. Seems to me it might be a very unwelcome amount of attention especially from people who have no idea what the fuck this is

She has already said multiple times that doesn't like the crazy attention and huge donos and stuff and just wants to be seen as the person people watch to chill not worship, this feels a bit over the top but whatever

        [–]PumpJack_McGee 33 points34 points  (7 children)

This is essentially going be like when our posts reach r/all, but in real life.

        [–]CustomFighter2 22 points23 points  (5 children)

        But will UnstoppablePhoenix be there?

        [–]PeripheralAddition 19 points20 points  (4 children)

Wearing a sandwich board(with a copypasta explanation of hololive and ina) and wielding a bell

        [–]UnstoppablePhoenix 13 points14 points  (3 children)

If you want me to spend at least $3k in flights getting there, sure

        [–]aelude 44 points45 points  (4 children)

It's really funny to me how transparently disconnected from big city culture a lot of the posters here are, lol. There are great concerns to be raised over this, but none of them have anything to do with how the NYC public would react to this. The answer is that they wouldn't. There would be no backlash over her design, or sudden influx of negative attention within the community or whatever else because these signs show all kinds of constantly changing shit 24/7. The locals won't even notice it and the tourists will have other shit going on.

Now whether or not Ina would be comfortable with this idea is a totally different story.

        [–]Derasiel 26 points27 points  (0 children)

        Wow

        [–]EletroBirb 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Finally a screen big enough to fit her giant ass

        [–]baeruu 22 points23 points  (1 child)

Have you guys never been to Times Square? All sorts of random stuff get put on the billboards/ads but nobody cares so chill with the “people will get weirded out/ confused/ insert negative reaction here. They’ve obtained the necessary permissions so let the Takodachis/ Tentacult celebrate their oshi’s birthday and let’s sit back and enjoy the show.

        [–]7-2 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah, def sounds like people who have never been to NY. Everyone is staring at their phones for the most part, the only people looking at billboards are the tourists

        [–]Kurimou 80 points81 points  (26 children)

I'll probably get flak for this, but as nice as the thought is, this project seems like it's a pretty bad idea, and a potential legal nightmare. I'll be happy to be wrong, though.

        [–]Megakruemel 62 points63 points  (2 children)

I'm more concerned about people freaking out about her outfit. It seems pretty normal but I can totally see some "concerned Parent" freaking out about how her outfit has that window on her chest. And for some reason all Anime characters are considered children in some peoples eyes, so there is that extra layer of problems that aren't actual problems, too.

And yes, I'll be very happy to be wrong, too.

        [–]strikeraiser 43 points44 points  (10 children)

I'm a little concerned on the idea of showing off something related to Hololive in Times Square where a bunch of normies are just gonna wonder what the hell are they looking at.

It's probably just my side of not wanting to get any more unwanted attention to this community though.

        [–]King_Of_Regret 42 points43 points  (6 children)

Nobody from new york actually pays attention to the billboards. Its all for tourists. And as someone who's spent 2 weeks in new york, trust me you see way, way weirder shit than an anime character.

        [–]Animalbus 29 points30 points  (2 children)

Nobody from New York goes to Times Square either 😂

        [–]Flex_Dynasty 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I think this might be going too far

        [–]alcard987 5 points6 points  (0 children)

        Nice!

        [–]MagicSwordKing 84 points85 points  (31 children)

Unpopular opinion, but this feels gross. Ina, someone who's already noted how uncomfortable she can be with some of the amounts of money some of her fans spend on her, seems like the opposite of someone who would want this sort of stunt pulled on her behalf. It feels more like a fan trying to flex their bank account than any sort of honest gesture of affection.

If this fan wanted to take this same amount of money and commission a bunch of art to put together a website or something to send to Ina, I think that would be absolutely lovely, but to solicit free labor from fans to then put on a billboard in Times Square for no other reason than to, I don't know, confuse some tourists? This feels gross.

I really, really hope that people didn't just check with Cover to see if it's legally okay (which, honestly, I'm not too sure about, I'd like to see any sort of confirmation of that from Cover and not just someone on a fan discord) and actually made the effort to check with Ina to make sure she'd be okay with this. This just feels like way too much and oddly not enough at the same time, the priorities here are wack.

        [–]Hornet65 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm with you on this. For all the reasons you said, plus I feel that it's just asking for a lot of unwelcome attention.

        [–]Vonarga 18 points19 points  (0 children)

World Dom-Ina-tion progressing nicely for the tentacult :)

        [–]snipe4hire 20 points21 points  (2 children)

This sounds pretty hype! But after reading some of these comments, I do I hope Ina is okay with it. Guess we'll see, hope all is fine.
