Substitute Karlan Grant's goal gave West Bromwich Albion victory over Championship rivals Sheffield United in the Carabao Cup to set up a second-round trip to Derby.

In an entertaining first half it was the away side who came closest to opening the scoring when Rhian Brewster's shot came back off the post.

Grant headed home the winner from Callum Robinson's cross just three minutes after coming on.

Robinson and Matt Phillips then both hit the crossbar in quick succession as the Baggies looked to make the win safe, but one goal proved enough.

There was some bad news for the victors though, with striker Grant forced off with an injury before the end of the match.

Steve Bruce's men, who have drawn their opening two league games this season, will travel to Pride Park on Tuesday, 23 August.

    Good to see United giving youngsters like Arblaster and McAtee game time; the sooner that Brewster get scoring again the better for him and everyone.

    A disappointment for Wor Steve being turfed out at St James' Park. However, he was well compensated with his contract being paid up in full. Therefore like many well-regarded former top players, he continues making a good living out of being a moderate football coach/manager. I wish him wall at the Baggies; not having Mr Ashley, running the show there is to his advantage. The Blades need oiling!

      I know he scored on Monday but I would have fancied my chances with the service he was getting. Baggies still need bucket loads of chances to score one goal and that can't do any good for their promotion chances.
