Neighbours star Margot Robbie has admitted that she was stunned to land her role on the soap.

The actress feared that she had performed badly after auditioning for the part of Donna Freedman and soon jetted off for a holiday without waiting to hear back from the show's bosses.

Robbie told the Herald Sun: "I went to Canada to go snowboarding with my boyfriend. I didn't give it a moment's thought. I thought I'd done a really bad audition, so I just walked out and thought, 'Oh well'.

"But you know, you get one phone call and it changes your life. We'd been in Canada for two days and I got that call and I sort of said, 'Bye, I guess I'm leaving for home'. But I did manage one day of snowboarding."

Discussing her eccentric alter ego, she continued: "[Donna's] really dramatic, but I guess I can be a bit dramatic at times. Playing her is always fun - it's a huge amount of fun - but it is exhausting. It's often 15 hours a day and there are times that you get sick because you are so run down."

The 19-year-old recently spoke of how she would like to land a 'grittier' role in the future.
