Máxima Zorreguieta

Máxima was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She met Willem-Alexander in 1999. Her father had been a member of the military junta of General Videla, and this led to an outcry in the runup to the wedding. The couple married in 2002 and have three daughters.

Willem-Alexander was invested as King of the Netherlands in 2013. Máxima assumed the title of Queen.

Besides performing her duties as queen, Máxima, who is a trained economist, is the United Nations Secretary-General’s official envoy for inclusive financing.
