It’s been a long wait and finally Raajhorshee De’s film ‘Mayaa’ is gearing up for its theatrical release. The film, based on William Shakespeare’s Macbeth, will hit the big screens on July 7. It will be interesting to see how this film works out, especially after delivering a multi-starrer family entertainer like ‘Abar Kanchenjunga’.

This one also comes with an ensemble cast including Rafiath Rashid Mithila, Tnusree C, Richa Sharma, Koneenica Banerjee, Sudipta Chakraborty, Ranieeta Dash, Ratasree Dutta, Devlina Kumar, Sudiptaa Banerjee, Sayantani Guhathakuta, Kamaleswar Mukherjee, Gaurav Chakrabarty, Gourab Chatterjee, Rahul Arunoduoy Banerjee, Anindya Chatterjee, Ishan Mazumder, Rohit Banerjee, Ashim RoyChowdhury and Kan Singh Sodha in pivotal roles.
Speaking about the film, Raajhorshee admits that it was his toughest film to date but at the same time, he is lucky to collaborate with some of the best actors in the Bengali industry. According to the director, this film is a completely different adaptation. It is like a subversion of Macbeth from a woman’s perspective. Interestingly, Mithila will be seen as the alter ego of Lady Macbeth in the film.
Raajhorshee further adds that in all his previous films he has tried to establish the fact that feminism isn't about making women stronger because they are already strong. Instead, it is about changing the way the world perceives this strength. He has also revealed that it’s not Macbeth but the witches, and Lady Macbeth’s characters have inspired him to make a film on the Shakespeare classic.

“My character Maya leads a minority group and at the same time, her personal life is troubled with struggle and oppression. It’s a strong, challenging role with a lot of dark shades and layers," Mithila who will be seen in three different time frames - an adolescent 17-18-year-old girl, a woman in her early 30s, and a woman in early 50s in the film, had earlier shared while speaking about her character in ‘Mayaa’.
