The Honda Civic Tour, co-headlined by rock acts Linkin Park and Incubus, score this week’s No. 1 Hot Tours ranking as the annual sponsored rock concert makes its way through North America.
The 2012 edition, with MuteMath also on the bill, launched on August 11 at the outdoor amphitheater Jiffy Lube Live, located in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area. The 16-city trek crossed the U.S. with performances primarily at outdoor sheds, but also in the mix were stops at three arenas and one stadium. The stadium show was held at Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif., the 27,000-seat home venue for two Major League Soccer teams, Los Angeles Galaxy and Chivas USA. The concert on September 8 at the Los Angeles-area venue grossed $1.7 million from a sellout crowd of 24,936. The tour wrapped two days later in San Diego with final overall counts topping $11.2 million in ticket sales from 16 performances. Attendance totaled 228,427 for the 4-week tour.
Journey is second among this week’s list of ten 10-grossing tours with more than $10.4 million reported from the first 19 performances on the band’s 2012 tour that kicked off during the summer. This week’s totals include the tour’s first show at San Manuel Amphitheater in Devore, Calif. on July 21 through its Sept. 1 appearance at the Minnesota State Fair in St. Paul. The tour’s top attendance so far was logged at Cheyenne Frontier Days, the nine-day rodeo and western entertainment event held each summer in the Wyoming capital city. A total of 15,626 fans were in the grandstand for the concert on July 26.
Journey was last year’s recipient of the “Legend of Live” Award at the Billboard Touring Awards, held during the Billboard Touring Conference each November in New York City. This year’s Touring Conference will occur on Nov. 7-8 at The Roosevelt Hotel in midtown Manhattan.
Landing at No. 3 on the Hot Tours tally is Enrique Iglesias & Jennifer Lopez’s co-headlining tour with $8.4 million in box office grosses reported from the final seven markets on the 19-city tour that began in mid-July. During the final two weeks of the tour, two of the cities on the itinerary hosted the Latin pop stars for two performances – Los Angeles with shows on August 16-17 at Staples Center and Miami with the tour’s final two nights at American Airlines Arena on August 31 and September 1. Overall, the seven-week tour grossed more than $21.1 million at the box office with 265,647 tickets sold at 24 concerts.
