James McTeigue, the Wachowski brothers protege who directed V for Vendetta, has boarded Alien Sleeper Cell, a sci-fi thriller from ScanBox Studios, the new company from Joe Gatta and Joni Sighvatsson.
ScanBox has put together international financing deals for the project with multiple territories around the world, with most of Western Europe and the Middle East already sold. ScanBox is teaming up with Adrian Askarieh‘s Prime Universe Films, which recently wrapped Hitman: Agent 47 for Fox, to produce Cell.
Plot details are being kept under wraps but elements harken to Bourne Identity and TV’s The Americans but applied to an alien invasion scenario.
The script was written by Morgan Davis Foehl, the up-and-coming writer who is generating buzz for such projects as Michael Mann’s Cyber.
Felipe Linz, who came up with the concept, is exec producing.
McTeigue gained attention as the first director for the Wachowskis, working on such films as The Matrix trilogy and Speed Racer. He made his debut with V for Vendetta, which starred Natalie Portman. He followed that up with 2009’s Ninja Assassin and 2012’s The Raven. He recently wrapped Survivor, an action thriller starring Milla Jovovich and Emma Thompson.
He is repped by CAA and Jackoway Tyerman.
