Adam Wingard is about to bring to screens his second film featuring the largest screen stars you’ll find. That would be Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, his follow-up to 2021’s Godzilla vs. Kong for Legendary. This is far from his origins in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, and his early work making small budget horror films. Those films included the horror comedy Home Sick, and Pop Skull, latter made on a $2000 budget. He would team with Joe Swanberg to co-direct Autoerotic, followed by the home invasion Toronto Midnight Madness title You’re Next, followed by The Guest. While the sequel to The Blair Witch Project failed to conjure up the riches of that groundbreaking found footage film, Wingard’s work was getting noticed. Legendary invited him to play in a much larger sandbox, bringing him into its giant MonsterVerse universe. Wingard has found a niche in bring the giant ape and reptile into epic screen battles.
