Celebrating the 30th Anniversary of the Australia-Japan Friendship Treaty, the Australia-Japan Foundation and the 110th anniversary of the first Japanese Consulate in Australia, this photographic exhibition explores 100 years of contact and culture, distrust and war, friendship and co-operation between Australia and Japan.

Western Australian Premiers Book Awards Western Australian Premier’s Book Awards
On Friday 9 June 2006, the Minister for Culture and the Arts, Hon Sheila McHale, announced that the book Cleared Out, by Sue Davenport, Peter Johnson and Yuwali, had won the $20,000 Premier's Prize in the WA Premier's Book Awards. You can see the full list of Winners. Entries for the 2006 Awards will be called for in late October 2006.

As part of the City of Perth Winter Arts Festival, the West Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) and the State Library of Western Australia presents an exciting series of lunchtime concerts featuring staff and students of WAAPA in a range of exhilarating programs. Most concerts will be performed in the Theatre on the Ground Floor. You can view details of the concerts.

National Treasures National Treasures from Australia’s Great Libraries Exhibition comes to Western Australia in 2007
The exhibition, four years in development, will tour 175 iconic objects drawn from the magnificent collections of Australia’s national, state and territory libraries to every capital city over the next two years. Divided into eight themes, National Treasures spans the earliest European depiction of the Southern Cross drawn in the 16th century, through our convict and colonial era, two world wars, recent innovations, our cultural life and our obsessions with sport, food and wine.

Information Gateways
New to the Information Gateways, is the Songs and Singing Topic Page located under the Music Heading. A comprehensive link to key resources containing information on vocal techniques, songwriting and song indexes, just to name a few!

Exhibitions and Displays
A range of exhibitions and displays are presented throughout the Alexander Library Building.

Film Screenings
The State Library regularly presents film screenings in the comfortable surroundings of the Alexander Library Building theatre. Screenings are hosted by the State Film and Video Library in conjunction with other organisations such as the Film and Television Institute, the International Film Theatre and the Consulate-General of Japan.

Wednesday Matinee 2006 The Wednesday Matinee screenings are presented from February to November each year at 12.30pm for your enjoyment. Admission is free. Details of the 2006 programme are now available.
