He has had a tough few months after his horrific rape ordeal.

But Coronation Street's David Platt could be set for further heartache next week after he proposes to girlfriend Shona Ramsey, only for her to reject him by saying it's too soon.

Spoilers released ahead of next week's show see David pop the question for Shona in a surprise romantic gesture after finally starting to move forward from his difficult ordeal, but could her rejection tear the couple apart once again?

David's (played by Jack P Shepherd) surprise decision comes after he finally begins community service for assaulting Gary Windass (Mikey North) earlier this year, and becomes the brunt of many jokes from his fellow offenders after being visited by vicar Billy Mayhew.

His erratic behaviour continues when David stops by Roy's Rolls to see Shona (Julia Goulding) and pops the question then and there, leaving her underwhelmed and bewildered by the decision.

Shona goes onto tell David that it's not the right time for them to get married as he is still coming to terms with his horrific ordeal, leaving him devastated by the rejection.

The surprise scenes come as one of three proposals to rock the cobbles this summer, as it was revealed last week that Steve McDonald and Daniel Osbourne will also pop the question.

Following the rejection David begins making homophobic comments towards Billy when he returns to community service, but later breaks down to the vicar telling him all about what he has been through.

David was left a shadow of his former self after being drugged and raped by Josh (Ryan Clayton) in March, and after police failed to charge him sources have hinted the character will be back on the cobbles very soon.

A source told The Sun: 'Josh's return isn't going to be anything that fans would expect.

'When he left Weatherfield he planned to leave for good, but in Corrie things don't always go to plan and it won't necessarily be his choice to return.'

The source also revealed that it will be David himself who is responsible for Josh's return to the Corrie cobbles, as he is determined to get revenge for what he has been through.

Bosses have previously hinted that Josh will get his comeuppance for the crime, but it won't necessarily be legally based.
