Super Bowl Week Service Information for Regular NJ TRANSIT Customers


With the first ever “Mass Transit Super Bowl” coming to the New York/New Jersey region on February 2, 2014, NJ TRANSIT is expecting to carry more people on its trains, buses and light rail lines as fans and spectators travel to and from Super Bowl-related events all throughout Super Bowl Week, from January 27 through February 3.  
 

What does this mean for NJ TRANSIT’s everyday customers?  NJ TRANSIT has put together a plan that offers expanded service and additional capacity to ensure that both Super Bowl visitors and regular NJ TRANSIT customers can travel with ease during the entire week.  However, customers are advised that they may experience crowding across the system and additional wait times on major event days, as well as some service adjustments and detours on buses throughout Super Bowl week, including on game day.

For added customer convenience, January monthly passes will remain valid until noon on Tuesday, February 4.  In addition, NJ TRANSIT is offering a special extension of its Family Super Saver Fare, which allows up to two children 11 and younger to travel free with each fare-paying adult.  The Family Super Saver Fare will be in effect all through Super Bowl week, beginning at 7 p.m. on Friday, January 24 and ending at 6 a.m. on Tuesday, February 4.

Travel Tips

  • Stay Informed:  For the latest travel information, visit njtransit.com or access our Twitter feed at @NJTRANSIT prior to starting your trip.  In the event of delays or service adjustments, NJ TRANSIT will provide the most current service information via the My Transit alert system, which delivers travel advisories for your specific trip to your cell phone, PDA or pager.  (If you are not yet a My Transit subscriber, we encourage you tosign up at www.njtransit.com/mytransit)  Service information is also available by calling (973) 275-5555 or from broadcast traffic reports.  In addition, listen closely to public address announcements at stations for late-breaking service information.
  • Check Schedules in Advance:  Plan your trip online to take advantage of extra trains, buses or light rail service.
  • Allow Extra Travel Time:  Traffic congestion may affect bus and Access Link travel times, and large crowds may affect wait times for rail and light rail service, so customers should plan accordingly.  Build additional travel time to get to your final destination.
  • Ticketing:  NJ TRANSIT’s My Tix mobile ticketing program gives customers the ability to purchase and display one-way rail tickets and weekly and monthly passes right from their smartphone.  The My Tix App is currently available for freedownload on any web-enabled iOS or Android operating system, via App Store for iOS devices and Google Play Store for Android devices.  Customers may visit njtransit.com/mytix for more information. 
  • For customers not using the My Tix App, purchase round-trip tickets at the start of your trip to speed your return.  Use ticket vending machines or see a ticket agency, if available, to avoid possible surcharges.  Bus customers departing Port Authority Bus Terminal are reminded that tickets must be purchased before boarding the bus. 
  • Customers are also reminded that they can take advantage of SUPER PASS, which will speed travel and offer the flexibility to utilize the entire NJ TRANSIT system throughout Super Bowl Week.
  • Luggage:  Travel as light as possible.  Customers with luggage or packages should use the overhead racks or designated luggage spaces.  On multilevel trains, customers with large bags should use the mezzanine levels at the ends of each car.  For Super Bowl Sunday, customers boarding trains to Secaucus or MetLifeStadium must adhere to the NFL Stadium Bag Policy.  For details, visit www.nfl.com/allclear.
  • Expect crowds:  The busiest trains, buses and light rail cars will be those immediately preceding and following events.  In particular, customers are advised to anticipate extended wait times after events.
  • Expect Delays:  Large crowds can sometimes have an impact on train operations.  Be courteous to your fellow riders by standing clear of the doors, moving all the way into the car, and making all seats available.
  • Use Good Judgmentand Know the Rules:  Customers are encouraged to use caution and good judgment in their travels.  As a reminder, smoking is not permitted aboard trains, buses and light rail cars, in stations and terminals, or on platforms.
