How to become a driving instructor?

You will need to complete a Driving Instructor course at a recognised course provider. We can supply contact phone numbers of course providers. Call now on 02 9344 5107.

You will then need to check with the school to ascertain the conditions and pre-requisites appropriate to you. However an Eligibility Advice which is a police report conducted through a police interview must be presented when you enrol.

Before the RTA will consider issuing you with an instructor�s licence, you must successfully complete the appropriate course in driving instruction as offered by the school. This is a requirement of the Driving Instructor�s Act 1992. To obtain your instructor�s licence, you will need to present a certificate from an approved course provider showing the RTA that you have successfully completed the course.

You will then need to submit a medical report, undertake an Instructor�s Impart Knowledge test at the RTA and driving test. Once all these have been successfully completed, you will be issued with a driving instructor�s licence.
