The most surprising thing about Hayao Miyazaki’s latest movie, The Secret World of Arrietty, is how small it is. Possibly not, given the subject matter - it’s about little people who live under the floorboards at a house in the country - but still, this is the guy that introduced new worlds with Princess Mononoke, and Spirited Away among others.

That said, maybe this is the direction the Director is moving in? With last year’s Ponyo, Miyazaki adapted The Little Mermaid, adding his own wit and wisdom... That movie too had a relatively limited scope, essentially taking place in two or three locations, and focusing on the relationship between the title character and her one true love. Here, we’re even more limited: there are set pieces, but again, Miyazaki gives us an adaptation (this time of the classic children’s novel “The Borrowers”), and an even more limited space to play in, essentially one house and its backyard. With her bow and arrows, Merida is no ordinary Disney Princess. Mattel's new line based on the highly-anticipated animated movie Brave combines just the right mix of action and fashion doll "musts" - cool outfits and awesome hair! Mattel is no stranger to adapting Pixar favorites as toys, having produced some great dolls in the past for Toy Story. Here's a sneak peek at their Brave offerings, from this year's Toy Fair.

Their Brave series is anchored by two "core" Merida dolls, one in her regal gown and crown, and other in more of a fighting mode with her bow:

The American trailer for Studio Ghibli's The Secret World Of Arrietty has just been released!

The Secret World of Arrietty (Kari-gurashi no Arietti) is the new movie from Studio Ghibli (home of Spirited Away and Ponyo), and while it was released in Japan last year, American fans will have to wait until February to see it. Here's something to hold us over, though: Disney, which is releasing the film in the U.S., has just put out the American dub of the trailer.

Written by Hayao Miyazaki and Keiko Niwa, Arrietty is based on British author Mary Norton's books The Borrowers but is set in modern-day Tokyo. As in the original, tiny people live beneath the floors of an ordinary house and create their own world by "borrowing" everyday objects, which provides opportunities for all sorts of dollhouse-type cuteness. The Borrowers are supposed to stay out of sight, but Arrietty is spotted by Sho, a sickly young boy, and the two become friends. Of course the grownups interfere and bring an element of danger to the story; humans and Borrowers can only coexist, it seems, if the humans are unaware of their tiny counterparts.

Yesterday I had to thank me lucky charms as I was oh so privileged to interview Jeremy Bulloch, AKA BOBA FETT!!! OMG I was so excited and nervous, who’d think that a small town girl like me one day would be interviewing one of the darkest villians in the galaxy for MTV Geek!!

Jeremy has had quite a career, he started acting on stage at the age of 5 and by 12 years old was doing his first professional acting gig -- a cereal commercial in England, his motherland.  He’s also acted in several James Bond films and the original Doctor Who series. He landed the gig as Boba Fett when his half brother, Robert Watts, one of the Star Wars producers, suggested him for the part.

LW: How does it feel being one of the most iconic characters in the Star Wars universe?

JB: It’s very nice when people come up to you and say you’re iconic. To begin with I didn’t know what they were talking about. Then people bow in front of you at these events, but luckily having been around a long time, you take it in stride. It was just a part I played and it became very popular which is very fortunate. Every now and then there were a couple of theatre jobs that came up and I did them, and you came out and they were a huge success and then something else can be pretty bad. But this has just grown over the years and more and more people contact you. So every day I’m reminded that I’m either iconic which I think means old (hearty laugh!!) or you know, it’s something that you’ve done that people appreciate.
