As the global ambassador for Tourism Australia it's hardly surprising that Chris Hemsworth would decide on familiar territory for his family holiday. The Melbourne-born star, 32, splashed out on a luxury $12,000-a-night suite during a recent week-long trip to the One&Only; Hayman Island resort in the heart of the Great Barrier Reef. Yamato Tanooka, seven, (inset) was abandoned by his parents in northern Japan's wilderness in cold weather without food or water, but the young boy managed to survive a week on his own. He walked kilometres until he found an abandoned military base (left) where he found mattresses (right) inside which he slept between. Although he had no food, he found a tap from which he drunk water to keep him alive until he was found.

The singer, 23, and model, 21, have ended their relationship of seven months, E! News confirmed on Friday. While no reason for the split was given, it appears the couple have having relationship problems for months and had broken up and reconciled a number of times, a source said.

Stephen Deuters (circled left) said the messages posted online have been fabricated, and insisted 52-year-old Depp never attacked his estranged wife. He told said he didn't know of any abuse claims during their 15-month marriage and had never mentioned allegations to anyone. Deuters also says the texts are suspicious because they don't have a date alongside them. If the case goes to court, he said he will testify under oath that he never spoke to Heard about Depp's violent behavior. The correspondence, said to be be sent between Heard and Deuters in 2014, was released by Entertainment Tonight on Wednesday. In one text supposedly sent from Heard regarding a man alleged to be Depp she writes: 'He's done this many times before. Tokyo, the island, London (remember that?!), and I always stay. Three beaches around Ballina on the New South Wales north coast were evacuated on Friday morning, after five sharks were spotted, with surfers and bodyboarders cleared from the water by sirens. Lighthouse Beach, where three great white sharks were spotted, is where surfer Sam Morgan and bodyboarder Mat Lee were mauled last year. Ballina mayor David Wright said the only reason two of the three sharks were spotted this morning, was because the DPI were doing training in a helicopter over the area. He said he hoped the sightings (pictured) were 'an anomaly'.

The bull elephant, named Ben, surprised guests when he approached the Bumi Hills Safari Lodge in Zimbabwe. But manager Nick Milne soon realised that the animal was suffering with a limp and appeared to be severely injured. The in-house vet was gone for the weekend so another was called and volunteered to fly 200 miles to help the elephant.

A New Zealand news anchor has cracked up on live TV over a weather report that showed a phallic water spout captured over the north of Auckland on Wednesday. A convicted sex offender was sentenced to death Thursday for killing three women whose bodies were found wrapped in garbage bags. Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge Nancy McDonnell accepted a jury's recommendation that 38-year-old Michael Madison (bottom right) receive the death penalty. She could have instead chosen to sentence Madison to life in prison without parole. Van Terry (pictured main), the father of Shirellda Terry (top right), one of Madison's three victims, leaped over a table to attack the defendant in court just minutes after the judge pronounced a death sentence.

Former Olympian, Olivia Vivian, 26, fell from the uneven bars and landed on her neck (pictured) during the Australian Gymnastic Championships in Melbourne last week. The accident happened after the athlete's feet clipped the bar she was working on. The gymnast said 'bars can be a pain in the neck' after the accident.

A Florida-based dad (right) has gained Internet plaudits for the extra special measures he went to to keep his breastfed new daughter happy and nourished. After Chris Allen's fiancée, Jennifer Capo, went back to work, Mr Allen dutifully took over the breastfeeding duties via an innovative solution that doesn't involve him lactating. A San Francisco startup understands some detest folding laundry and is set to release a device that does it automatically - for just $700 to $850. Dubbed 'Your laundry folding friend', FoldiMate uses a conveyor belt, several robotic arms and an adjustable tray that pushes out expertly folded apparel in less than a minute. Users simply clip their freshly washed garments to the integrated rack located on the outside of FoldiMate, set preferences and in minutes, will have nicely folded and pressed clothes.

Biddy the echidna has been treated to a 'healing' bubble bath (pictured) at Australia Zoo in Brisbane after it was found injured in a backyard in Maryborough. The echidna suffered cuts to the back and legs thought to have been caused by slashing work.

A hack expert claims to have found the key to slicing a banana at high speed - using a cooling rack. The unusual method involves peeling half the banana by hand and placing it onto a metal rack into a bowl. A video by the UK-based YouTube channel has been watched more than 1.2 million times.

Red panda (left) twins born at Melbourne Zoo have made a brief appearance in public to nibble on special porridge (top, right) used to help the cubs transition to their adult diets of bamboo. Adorable pictures show the shy cubs, Mandu and Keta, perched on the branches of a tree before one makes its way down to be fed by zookeeper Kelly Rainbow (bottom, right). The cheeky cubs weigh just over 800g each and have just started the weaning process which usually starts within five months of being born.

Nude Yoga Girl, 26, has more than 370,000 followers on Instagram thanks to her photos of phenomenal poses performed entirely in the buff. Now, the yogi stars in a pair of videos where she performs her complex moves totally naked with strategic lighting to conceal her 'intimate parts'. Appleby, in the Westmorland area of Cumbria, is the biggest gipsy event in Europe and is a celebration for the community's love of horses. The festival is believed to be about 200 years old and attracts 30,000 visitors with many staying in modern or traditional caravans across huge campsites around the town. Never-before-seen pictures and footage of gorilla Koko and her trainer Penny Patterson who met in San Francisco in 1971 are set to form part of a new BBC documentary. The clips and images were taken by Dr Ron Cohn, who filmed more than 2,000 hours of footage showing how Ms Paterson and 300-pound Koko formed their incredible relationship. When Ms Paterson first met a newborn Koko at the San Francisco Zoo, she started an experiment to see if she could teach the gorilla sign language. The animal then began to master hundreds of signs, and could communicate her thoughts to her keeper.

Elisabeth Renteria uploaded the video of her son, Rick, on the kiddie coaster, which Reddit users have speculated is The Patriot at Castles N Coasters in Phoenix, Arizona - a mild, kid-appropriate ride. He seems terrified the whole time and holds onto his mom tight.When the coaster goes over a dip and accelerates, he screams and asks his mom what is going on. The healthy male cub was born in the early hours at the Paira Daiza wildlife park in Belgium to six-year-old Hao Hao and her mate Xing Hui. The cub, to be given a name later, emerged as 'a little pink sausage' and gave a loud cry before being scooped up in Hao Hao's mouth, the park's zoological director Tim Bouts said. Mother and baby were now doing well, but he warned: 'We are still in a risky period.' The zoo, which has hosted the pair since 2014 under an arrangement with the Chinese authorities, cooperated with experts from the animals' native China to treat the mother by artificial insemination.

The incredible album of 262 black and white pictures show the stark aftermath of the war, with buildings reduced to rubble, towns flooded, bridges and dams destroyed and battleships sunk. Unfortunately, not much is known about the photographer but they are believed to have been a British soldier who was with the Allied forces in occupied Germany in 1946.
