Winona Ryder has been spotted for the first time since her hilarious facial expressions at Sunday night's Screen Actors Guild Awards sparked a meme frenzy.

The actress, 45, looked fresh-faced as she stepped out of her Los Angeles hotel on Monday wearing a black hat and matching blazer with torn blue jeans and petite black heels.

She clutched a two-litre bottle of water, keeping herself hydrated after what was no doubt a night of celebration following Stranger Things' Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series win.

She tied her brunette tresses in a ponytail and sported a deep pink lipstick, while she forwent any makeup around her eyes. 

Winona sparked a meme frenzy as she made interesting facial reactions to her co-Stranger Things co-star David Harbour's political speech at Sunday's star-studded ceremony.

Her 14-year-old co-star Gaten Matarazzo explained that the veteran actress just had trouble hearing the powerful address, when asked for his thoughts at LAX Airport on Monday.

What a reaction: He was asked about Winona Ryder's now infamous facial expressions while the cast accepted an award during the SAG Awards on Sunday night

Gaten - who plays Dustin Henderson on the Netflix series - said: 'Oh I think it's because she couldn't hear what David [Harbour] was saying.'

He was also queried what he thought about the expressions to which he replied: 'Yeah it was awesome!'

The young man was joined by his mother Heather as they made their way through TSA in the busy airport.

He was also asked if the rest of the cast felt like Winona had overshadowed the moment but Gaten certainly didn't think so.

He said: 'No I think we were just happy to like be with each other. It was a great time.'

On Sunday night, Winona was dubbed a 'human gif factory' by one fan as she sparked a sudden flood of memes on social media.

In his speech David implored his fellow actors to use their fame for good - alluding to the current political upheaval in the US. 

'In light of everything that's going on in the world today, it's difficult to celebrate the already-celebrated Stranger Things,' he began.

'But this award from you who take your craft seriously and earnestly believe, like me, that great acting can change the world is a call to arms from our fellow craftsmen and women to go deeper.

The cast of Stranger Things was given the coveted Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series gong.
