Gisele Bundchen weeps as she sees the destruction of the rainforest in her native Brazil in sneak peek of Nat Geo show

She's a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Environment Program.

So supermodel Gisele Bundchen was a natural host for an episode of National Geographic's series, Years Of Living Dangerously.

But the 36-year-old was reduced to tears when she was flown over the Amazon rainforest in her native Brazil and witnessed the destruction of the habitat first hand.

Promoting a good cause:  Gisele Bundchen was up early for her appearance on the Today Show in which she talked about environment program Years Of Living Dangerously

Protecting the environment: The 36-year-old hosted an episode of National Geographic's series, which looked at the destruction of the Amazon rainforests in her native Brazil

She talked about the experience on the Today Show on Tuesday morning in New York.

'I grew up as a child thinking of the rainforest as a magical place, untouched, that could never be destroyed,' she shared with hosts.

'And then you grow up and you realise, no it's not indestructible, so many people are cutting it down to profit in so many ways.

'It's a shock, it's a shocking thing.'

Shocking view: The Goodwill Ambassador for the UN Environment Program flew over the region and saw the amount of land that had been deforested for cattle grazing 

Hard facts: The pilot shared,  'You know when you eat a burger, you don’t realize that your burger is from rainforest destruction. We already lost 20 percent of the Amazon.'

Visibly moved: The revelation reduced the mother-of-two to tears

Today shared a clip from the episode in which Gisele flies over the landscape, which starts out densely forested and then gives way to huge pastures where cattle graze.

Then, the pilot tells her: 'You know when you eat a burger, you don’t realize that your burger is from rainforest destruction. We already lost 20 percent of the Amazon.'

That was when the visibly moved mother-of-two dabbed at her eyes.

Wet, wet, wet: The supermodel braved wild and windy New York weather to get to NBC studios

She shares six-year-old Benjamin and Vivan, three, with her football pro husband Tom Brady, 39.

And Gisele wants to 'preserve to preserve all our natural resources ... for my children' and all of mankind she told the Today hosts.

'You can’t just keep taking and taking and think it’s going to be here forever.' 

Meanwhile, the celebrity braved some rainy, windy weather to get to the studio early.

Casual chic: Giesele wore a heavy leather jacket over a more formal jacket with cropped skinny jeans and high-heeled black shoes 

The blonde beauty donned a heavy black leather jacket with a sheepskin collar over the black jacket and T-shirt that she wore on the show.

She slipped her slender figure into cropped skinny jeans and black high-heeled shoes as an assistant held an umbrella over her head.

Gisele took to Instagram on Tuesday to let her 10.5 million  followers know that she was on The Today Show and remind them to watch Years Of Living Dangerously on Nat Geo on Wednesday.
