Senator John Ensign (R-NV) has just reintroduced S. 851, the Child Custody Protection Act in the Senate; and this same bill has been introduced as H.R. 1755 in the House by Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL). Ensign’s legislation has 22 co-sponsors and Ros-Lehtinen’s has 68 so far.
This legislation is designed to prevent the transportation of a child across state lines to avoid parental consent or notification laws in their home states. Abortionists have been circumventing state laws by taking children to neighboring states to get abortions.
Abortionists, of course, care little about parental rights—and they’ve been using this effort to circumvent state laws on parental notification or consent.
As Senator Ensign stated on the Senate floor recently: “A minor is forbidden to drink alcohol, to stay out past a certain hour, or to drive a car in some states, is certainly not prepared to make a life-altering, hazardous decision, such as abortion, without the consultation or consent of at least one parent.”
